Estate Planning and Living Trusts for Camarillo Residents
Camarillo families often call with two plans in mind at once: who receives the house, and how a parent will pay for care if health changes. Carmen B. Marquez has practiced since 2001. CBM Estate & Trust Law was founded in 2012. This page ties those questions together. It is general information, not legal advice, and it does not promise a Medi-Cal result.

How CBM serves Camarillo clients
Camarillo is in Ventura County. Meetings are at the Simi Valley office, 2655 First Street, Suite 110, Simi Valley, CA 93065, or by video or phone. There is no Camarillo suite. Book a complimentary 60-minute consultation at (805) 915-4793 or on the contact page.
In Ventura County, probate, trust, conservatorship, and guardianship matters are filed and heard at the Superior Court's Juvenile and Probate Courthouse, 4353 E. Vineyard Avenue, Oxnard. A court petition about a living trust is generally filed in the county where the trust is administered (California Probate Code section 17005). Most trust administration happens without court. We do not handle probate matters.
Living trusts for Camarillo homeowners
A living trust for a Camarillo house still has to be funded. The deed should name the trustee. A properly funded trust may help avoid probate for assets titled in the trust. Compare the tools in Living Trust vs Will in California and the steps in How to fund a California living trust. The service page is Living trusts.
If a child may live in the home later, property tax is its own topic. Read the Prop 19 parent-child exclusion guide. This page does not estimate a tax bill.
Trust administration when a Camarillo parent passes
After a death, the successor trustee follows the trust for assets it actually owns. That can include a Camarillo house that was deeded to the trust, account work, a notice, and a later distribution. Court is not the usual path for those trust assets. We do not handle probate matters. Read trust administration.
Wills, powers of attorney, health care directives
Long-term care planning sits next to the documents, not instead of them. A will can nominate a guardian for minor children. A power of attorney names someone for finances. An advance health care directive names someone for medical decisions. Those are described on the wills page. Trust funding is the separate job of matching titles to the trust. For care and Medi-Cal questions, start with elder law and Medi-Cal planning.
Local questions
How do Camarillo families plan for long-term care?
They usually start with who would pay bills, who would talk with doctors, and whether Medi-Cal for nursing home care is even a question for this household. Eligibility depends on income, resources, and the rules in effect when you ask. This page does not say whether anyone qualifies. Read Medi-Cal planning, elder law, the Medi-Cal estate recovery guide, and the Medi-Cal lookback and asset limits guide.
Will Medi-Cal estate recovery affect my Camarillo home?
Medi-Cal estate recovery rules depend on each person's situation. Planning may help a family understand how a Camarillo home fits those rules. It does not guarantee what the state will do, and this page does not promise an outcome. The Medi-Cal estate recovery guide is the longer explanation. Bring your facts to a consultation.
What does a successor trustee do in California?
A successor trustee follows the trust with loyalty and impartiality, manages assets with care, keeps records, and informs beneficiaries as the law and the document require. Practical orientation is the California successor trustee checklist and how to choose a successor trustee. We do not handle probate matters.
Can we meet by video?
